The Banksia Project is focused on early intervention in men’s mental health. They aim to create best practices and practical solutions to drive community support, increase self-awareness, encourage positive lifestyle choices, and facilitate ongoing support groups.

Their key program: Growth Roomsproviding space for men across NSW and the ACT to meet once a month, share stories and learn practical skills to navigate through tough times.

Men from your organisation can volunteer to become Growth Room Facilitator.

What is a Facilitator?

Facilitators are volunteer community heroes who out up their hand to lead monthly Growth Room.

All facilitators need to apply and are required to undergo compulsory course training designed by mental health professionals

As Growth Rooms take place monthly on a set date, time and location, an ongoing commitment is essential to ensure consistent support to the participants.

The Banksia Project will be hosting Facilitator Training in Canberra and Orange in the coming months. Please keep an eye on the website for confirmed dates.

About the opportunity

The Banksia Project will take community “champions” (Growth Room Facilitators) through a free two-day course to train and equip them to facilitate Growth Rooms in Sydney. These programs have been designed to improve men’s mental health.

Once a month a group of blokes meet up and discuss their challenges in a completely safe, non-judgemental environment. Through the process the guys will support each other, form lasting friendships and learn practical tools to improve their health and wellbeing. Growth Rooms run for approx 2 hours, once a month and are held after 5pm in varying locations around Sydney.
