Bicycles for Humanity Melbourne collects and fixes disused bikes and provides them to communities in need around Australia and overseas.
It is a global, volunteer-run non-profit organisation that helps alleviate poverty through sustainable transport.
Your team’s voluntary work will empower communities, one bicycle at a time.
You’ll be prepping bicycles by putting the bicycle in gear, lowering the seat, removing the pedals and attaching to the frame and removing the front wheel.
Other jobs include cooking the BBQ, checking and sorting spare parts and accessories (e.g. pairing loose pedals, checking tyres and tubes to find those in good condition), tidying up etc.
Please wear old clothes you don’t mind getting dirty, closed toe footwear.
Optional items to bring: gloves, water bottle, hat, sunscreen, hand sanitiser.
We’ll provide training, tools, WD40 (sometimes we need more than elbow grease!), BBQ lunch and good company.
Bikes for Humanity WA provide donated bikes to partner organisations in Africa to break the cycle of poverty, through establishment of sustainable small businesses and provision of transport, which impacts individuals’ lives and those of their families, communities and future generations.
In this opportunity you will help collect and repair bikes and load them into containers. You do not need to be mechanically-minded as no previous experience necessary – the B4H experienced volunteers will show you the way. ALL WELCOME!
Volunteers should wear closed in shoes and comfortable clothes.
If you have an old bike you would like to donate, please liaise with BWH to arrange a prior drop-off.
