About the opportunity

With an increasing number of businesses wishing to develop team building through volunteering in conservation projects, OCCA offers you a unique opportunity to contribute to the protection and enhancement of the waterways of the Oxley Creek Catchment.

With over five major tributaries and many smaller tributaries, a diversity of ecosystems and significant and endangered animal and plant species, the catchment of Oxley Creek is an ideal place for you to target your conservation efforts with a particular focus on riparian (creek bank) restoration.

Volunteers’ activities could include:

  • – Plant propagation and nursery work
  • – Tree planting
  • – Removal of weed species
  • – Litter collection
  • – Water quality testing
  • – Macroinvertebrate sampling
  • – Guided walk, site history and overview
  • – Flora and fauna identification
  • – Opportunity to contribute to maintaining your environmental project

To maximise your environmental experience OCCA staff and volunteers will:

  • – Plan your volunteering experience
  • – Facilitate the event
  • – Carry out site preparation
  • – Provide plants and equipment
  • – Provide specialist knowledge of flora and fauna
  • – Organise catering (if required)

Additional requirements:

Volunteers are asked to:

– Wear comfortable clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty – preferably long pants and a long sleeved shirt
– Wear covered shoes
– Bring a hat, sunscreen and insect repellent
– Bring water for the day


Cost

OCCA is a community not-for-profit organisation that depends on external funding and grants and the support of its volunteers.Our program costs include facilitation by OCCA’s Partnerships Officer, insurance cover, site preparation, plants, mulch, catering and site maintenance.

For a team of up to 12 participants, the following costs apply:

Half Day event without morning or afternoon tea $1,080 + GST

Half Day event including morning or afternoon tea $1,200 + GST

Full Day event without catering $1,395 + GST

Full Day event with catering $1,755 + GST

Larger groups can be accommodated. Contact the Partnerships Officer to discuss your needs and costs.

An additional option is available for you to contribute towards the $4 500 + GST required to maintain your environmental project for twelve months.

Seven days notice of cancellation is required for a full refund. Activities can be rescheduled in the event of wet weather.


Location

The catchment of Oxley Creek. OCCA can find a location if you do not have a preferred site. Brisbane, QLD.
