Rough Edges is a community centre in Darlinghurst, NSW.

People experiencing homelessness and marginalisation can come here for support and a sense of self.

Volunteering at Rough Edges is an interactive experience.

Give your staff an immersive community experience that will build team culture while they learn about and serve the street community of Darlinghurst.


About the opportunity

This program is designed not only as an eye-opening experience for corporate teams but also gives them the opportunity to do meaningful work that greatly benefits to the Rough Edges community.

Corporate groups will prepare and serve a meal, learn about the issues of homelessness and meet people who have lived through marginalisation in many of its forms. All the while engaging in a group activity and building stronger relationships within the team.


Corporate Day

A typical day:

9:00 am- Arrival and briefing
9:30 am- Meal preparation
11:00am- Serve food and spend time with our guests
1:30pm- Wash up and begin to farewell guests
2:00pm- Urban walk (see below for details)
3:30pm- Reflection and team leaves.

We recommend team drinks at one of the many pubs in Darlinghurst

Cost: $2000.
Up to 10 people
Duration: 9am – 3:30pm on Wednesdays or Fridays.


Urban Walk only

One of our patrons will take you on a tour of Darlinghurst and share their first hand experience of homelessness.

Cost: $450.
Up to 15 people
Duration: 1.5 hours.


Additional requirements:

Volunteers are asked to wear:

  • – Enclosed shoes that are comfortable to walk in
  • – Casual clothing
  • – Sun protection for time spent outdoors
