No matter where you are in your life journey, Wesley Mission is committed to helping people of all ages and abilities experience a more fulfilling life physically, spiritually, mentally and emotionally.
Located in the Wesley Centre on Pitt St, Wesley Connect supply food packages to people who are experiencing homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless.
Corporate volunteers will learn about homelessness in Sydney by taking the challenge to shop for three days’ worth of food with just $10. Participants then regroup to discuss their choices.
All food bought will be donated to the Wesley Connect program which provides food for
those in need including rough sleepers or those who are finding themselves under increasing
financial stress.
Corporate volunteers cover associated facilitation and food costs.
Group size: 10 – 150
Time commitment: Half day 10 am – 1 pm or 2 – 5 pm
Many of our residents don’t have family, so a visit from volunteers brings joy and valuable social interaction into their days.
The afternoon will start off with a brief welcome to the centre (including a tour) which will give the group a chance to ask questions and settle in. After meeting the residents they will enjoy playing games such as table bowling, carpet bowls or bingo giving them the opportunity to chat followed by afternoon tea.
Bring joy and valuable social interactions into the lives of those who may be lonely!
Corporate volunteers cover all associated costs.
Group size: 5 – 10
Time commitment: Weekdays 1 – 4pm
Gardening groups enable an extra pair of hands when it comes to keeping the grounds clean and tidying for our clients. In many cases the transformations of these areas makes a real difference to our clients outlook on life and circumstances.
The day will start off with a brief welcome to the centre and a chance to learn about what Wesley Mission does to support the needs of the clients your group is visiting.
The group is broken into teams to get the work done (eg. gardening, painting, cleaning, skip bin duties). In some cases you will be working alongside residents (Aged Care/Retirement villages) and may like to also interact with some of the residents in the dining room over lunch (BYO lunch).
The gardening makeovers, light up the lives of our clients and residents bringing them great joy and valuable social interactions.
Corporate volunteers cover all associated costs.
You may want to pack sunscreen and hats and bring your gardening gloves.
Group size: 10 – 20
Time commitment: Full day 10 am – 3 pm
As a volunteer for Wesley Open Wardrobe, you can help someone who is homeless find the clothes they need – like a suit for an upcoming job interview or a pair of shorts for the summer months.
Homelessness is a complex issue and one that’s not solved with a new wardrobe alone. But clothes can make a difference. They can help make people feel more confident and empowered.
Wesley Open Wardrobe is based at Wesley Edward Eagar Lodge, our supported accommodation service in Surry Hills.
Here, volunteers help set-up a market-like stall, provide advice for clients about what clothes suit their needs before joining them for a BBQ lunch. For residents of Wesley Edward Eagar Lodge, the clothes and lunch is free.
Your group will need to cover all associated costs. But more importantly remember to bring a friendly smile and an eye for fashion.
