About the opportunities

Lunch preparation

Lunch preparation provides vulnerable young people, who may be from a disadvantaged family, the opportunity to have a healthy and substantial meal for lunch.

This service operate at one of the six accredited high schools and is vital to fuelling their learning for the afternoon.

This service also provides meals for the Inner West Youth Homelessness Services programs.

Youth Off The Streets invites groups of 4-6 individuals to assist in this lunch preparation.

Food van

The food van is a great volunteering service for small groups. It runs every night from 8.15 – 8.30pm to approximately 11pm, a group of volunteers (2-4) prepare and serve food to the homeless people at Green Park in Darlinghurst, under the guidance of a trained member of staff.

Food for this activity is provided.

Additional requirements:

Volunteers are asked to wear closed toe shoes, hair tied back.

School Holiday Program

Youth Off The Streets recognises that school holidays are a time when young people are more at risk of engaging in negative behaviours, as they are away from the structure and stability that the school day offers.

They offer a ‘School Holiday Program’ in the community to engage young people in positive, diversionary, fun activities such as a trip to Luna Park, go-karting etc.

They invite our corporate supporters to fund and join our young people on these exciting and varied activities.

Additional requirements:

Volunteers are asked to wear closed toe shoes, hair tied back.

Bespoke Program

Youth Off The Streets works with organisations to design programs that meet the specific needs of our young people, which are aligned to a Corporate Partner’s community investment strategy.

As an example, they have designed an educational program around financial literacy which is taught to our young people, with the support of a major financial institution.

Additional requirements:

Volunteers require a valid Working With Children Check, and be over the age of 21 years.

Volunteers are asked to wear comfortable clothes, a hat and sunscreen.

Criminal checks are undertaken by Youth Off The Streets

Working Bee

Working bees are days in which a group of between 8 and 15 people come to one of our sites and volunteers their time in an unskilled capacity, through activities such as gardening, grounds maintenance, painting and cleaning.

These days are planned with the Corporate Partnerships team to ensure the day achieves positive outcomes for all. These usually take place during business hours.

In order to deliver these events there is a small fee for their facilitation.
