This Christmas, support drought affected children

Join a growing list of leading companies by supporting the My Life Story Appeal which provides
a unique literacy and health support program for children experiencing ongoing hardship in drought affected communities.

Why support the My Life Story Appeal?

My Life Story Program is a school community based writing project for Kindy to Year 7. Each child is supported to tell their story through a unique, curriculum-aligned literacy program and receives a digital and printed version of their own 12 page book.

In 2019, My Life Story aims to support 10,000 rural students to tell and share their story.

These books provide the opportunity to share and learn about country life and create an instant library for rural schools. These stories are then swapped and shared between country and city schools to build awareness of drought affected Australia and shares the grit, tenacity and reality of day to day life.

In addition to literacy skills, your company's support enables students to receive wrap around specialist health services by leading children's charity, Royal Far West. This includes support for anxiety, stress, speech, learning and behaviour. One in three young children in rural and remote Australia have significant developmental health issues which impacts their ability to understand, communicate and participate in school.

The My Life Story Appeal is supporting schools across three drought affected regions in NSW:

North West NSW (supporting towns including Gunnedah, Tamworth, Bowraville)

Central West NSW (supporting towns including Parkes, Grenfell, Forbes)

Far West NSW (supporting towns including Bourke, Walgett, Lightning Ridge)

Charlie's story from Walgett:

How does my company get involved?

To reach our goal of supporting 10,000 rural students, we need your help:

We're asking companies to run an end of year employee giving appeal within their company for 2 weeks in November or December 2019;

Your employees can choose to donate to support one student, a whole class or an entire school to access the My Life Story program;

Your company sets your own fundraising goal. If you're a small team, you could aim to raise $180 to support 10 students. Or if you're a large team, you could aim to raise $4,500 (or more!) to support an entire school.

Instead of a company toy drive this year, why not lend your support to our rural and regional kids?

“The teachers and children loved the My Life Story program. Even the most reluctant writers in the class were engaged in writing their very own stories.”

— Margie Gordon Poole - Deputy Principal Bourke Public School
